The first signing of the Winter season for Real Madrid arrives from Brazil. The Spanish side, currently on the top of La Liga table leveled with Barcelona, secured the signing of another Brazilian youngster: Reinier.
The 18-year-old attacking midfielder, who had his birthday just yesterday, played last season on Flamengo. The Brazilian champions, who also won the Libertadores Cup, revealed Reinier, as he rose through their academy.
He was given his first-team chance in August 2019, by manager Jorge Jesus. During the course of the 6 months in Flamengo, Reinier made 14 appearances in the Brazilian league, scoring 6 goals and making 2 assists.
Reinier joins Real Madrid with a contract until 2016, for an undisclosed fee.
La Liga teams can’t have a higher number than 3 players without Spanish Passport (or that are not from countries within the European Union).
For this reason, since Real Madrid already has Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior and Fede Valverde in their squad, it is expected that Reinier gets loaned next season.
The Brazilian youngster might return to Flamengo, or have an experience in another La Liga side, just like Kubo in Mallorca.
For now, he will join the academy side of the club, Real Madrid Castilla after he finishes his participation in the under 23 Pre-Olympic Tournament with Brazil.
Who is Reinier?
For those not familiar with South American football or soccer, Reinier is a young attacking midfielder, versatile who appears inside the box often. He was launched by manager Jorge Jesus, who made quite a buzz in Brazil as he helps Flamengo to finally end their title drought.
Not only did they win the Brazilian league but also the Libertadores, on the 2×1 final against River Plate in Lima, Peru. Reinier did not make many appearances in the Libertadores, but in the national league, he was quite the ‘Joker’ for Jesus.
Often the young attacking footballer would come from the bench and act as a super-sub, deciding the match with crucial assists or late goals.
The latest Brazilian young signings from top clubs – Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Reinier, Martinelli – indicate a tendency. Brazil’s future is secure, with strikers and attacking players who are versatile, know how to read well the game and are fast on and off the ball.
Plus they have tactical knowledge to release themselves from the defensive gaps and appear unmarked on the box. The future seems bright for Brazilian football and the Real Madrid scouting seems to be betting their chips on it.
