The Lega A in Italy (most known as Serie A) was the first major European league to suspend functions. This happened after several cases of coronavirus were reported among players.
Now, more than two months later, the Italy Federation has decided the conditions are reunited to restart the fixtures of the Serie A table. The league returns on the 20th of June.
Here are the games you can watch on that weekend:
20th of June – Saturday:
Torino – Parma
Hellas Verona – Cagliari
21th of June – Sunday
Atalanta – Sassuolo
Inter – Sampdoria
These matches are part of the delayed fixtures of the round 25 of Serie A table.
The confirmation came this Thursday. The Italian Minister of Sport, Vincenzo Spadafora, declared to have allowed the FIGC to return its activities.
Football in Italy will return on the 13th of June. The semifinals of Coppa Italia and the league will resume one week later.
Remember that in Germany the Bundesliga table has already returned two weeks ago, with several restrictions. Also, the Premier League returns in mid-June. La Liga comes back on the 11th of June.
Meanwhile, in the US, the Major League Soccer table might come back next month. A special tournament in Orlando continues under debate.
What to look forward to in Serie A?
Juventus is currently leading the table, with 63 points on 26 games. If Maurizio Sarri’s team wins all games they will conquer an 8th Serie A title in a row.
However, there is only one point separating the Vecchia Signora from the second-placed team: Lazio. By far the most surprising team in Serie A this season, Lazio, led by Simone Inzaghi has won the previous fixture against their rival.
The game that can be a matchpoint for the league’s fate happens only on the round 34. It is scheduled to happen on the 20th of July, in Torino.
Coming just after, still with glancing the title race, is Inter. Antonio Conte’s men need quite a miracle to catch up on the top 2, but they have a game in end to get closer to the table.
Inter has already played Lazio and Juventus twice, so they will have to win their matches and hope for a slip from their opponents.
Inter’s toughest matches are against Napoli and Atalanta in the last two rounds. Atalanta is 4th on the table and, with 70 goals scored, they are the top scoring team in the league.
They might still have a chance to finish in the 3rd place, so the match against Inter will be mouth watering.

The relegation battle
If the title battle is already a two-horse race, we can not say the same about the relegation zone. Brescia and SPAL might be very close to getting automatic relegation and going back to Lega 2, but the 3rd relegation place is still up for grabs.
Currently, Lecce is in the 18th position with 25 points. Just above, with 25 and 26 points respectively and are Sampdoria and Genoa (1 less game played). The arrival of Claudio Ranieri saved Sampdoria for now, but the former Leicester hero has to make sure his team can hold it till the end.
Meanwhile, Genoa has changed coaches already twice, with Thiago Motta adventure lasting 2 months. Davide Nicola has done a positive job since his arrival, but Genoa is still not safe from possible relegation.
Torino is surprisingly also in this group, with 27 points and one game in hand. The Toro has lost their last 5 league games, so they will need to revert the tendency once the league returns or the future does not seem positive.
Finally, there is Udinese with 28 points. A particular case, Udinese has conceded fewer goals (37) than some of their opponents above, but have a poor goalscoring record (21).
Only SPAL has a worse record (20) and Udinese’s 4 consecutive draws in the last 5 matches prove that they need to practice their accuracy.
